New coil configurations with 2G-HTS and benefits for applications

A scalable concept to prepare high current density windings with high-temperature superconducting material is introduced. The covers miniaturized high-current and large coils for applications in energy technology as well. principle based on a circular disk-up-down-assembly ('DUDA') extended rectangular coils. First measurements the assemblies (?40 turns) liquid nitrogen are presented proof-of-concept. Centre fields of ?40 mT ?340 measured during steady operation pulsed respectively. Operating at lower temperatures will strongly increase field performance. Lowering contact resistance might lead further improvements. Due homogenous structure radial direction, shear stresses minimized winding heights can be realized principle. DUDA coil used build even more sophisticated magnetic arrangements, e.g. Halbach-arrays, or complex new stator configurations rotating machines. optional miniaturization offers compact powerful magnets, accelerators too.
